GROUNDWORK

The client envisioned Flap App as a robust, user-friendly safety communication platform purpose-built for high-stakes scenarios. The core concept was to deploy a mobile application capable of enabling individuals to send real-time alerts and reminders to predefined contacts, including friends, family, or relevant authorities, during emergencies. The overarching objective was to minimize response time and potentially save lives by leveraging a secure, low-latency digital environment. This required an application architecture that could trigger alerts instantly, track delivery and acknowledgment statuses in real time, and maintain an encrypted communication channel even under adverse network condition

Problem Statement

In emergency scenarios, every second is critical, yet many existing solutions are hindered by latency, complexity, or unreliable performance. The client required a streamlined, high-availability alert system engineered to deliver rapid, dependable communication in crisis situations. Key functional requirements included:

  • Rapid User Onboarding: Secure account creation with identity verification via OTP or approved ID methods.
  • Single-Action Alert Trigger: Capability to dispatch danger alerts to pre-configured contacts instantly.
  • Bi-Directional Communication: Support for both sending and receiving alerts to ensure situational awareness.
  • Real-Time Status Updates: Continuous monitoring and display of alert states.
  • Secure Data Management: Encrypted storage and transmission of user and alert information.

Solution We Offered

Branex developed Flap App as a native mobile application for both iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin), backed by a secure, scalable backend system.

The client was looking to launch a platform specifically designed to give end customers a chance for real-time communication with instant notifications.

Here’s what Branex introduced as key components:

  • User Account Creation & Verification: This screen was designed for customers quick onboarding. Once the user signs up, they would have received an OTP & ID verification prompt.
  • Custom Alert Settings:This screen was designed to send alerts to users; alert recipients could be anyone, friends, family or any other emergency contact within the list.
  • Status Dashboard: The status dashboard screen showed two options: Normal or Danger states.
  • One-Tap Alert Trigger: The One-Tap Alert trigger was designed to instantly send alerts to chosen contacts.
  • Alert Management: With the Alert Management screen, the user can actively view alerts, cancel alerts, track alerts and receive receipts as confirmations.
  • Donation Module: The donation module gave users a chance to support the platform’s mission.
  • Secure Data Storage: Data storage security feature ensures user information is encrypted & protected.

The backend was powered by Node.js with MongoDB. It ensured low-latency communication and robust database handling.

Our Design Approach

The design approach for Flap App revolved around clarity, speed, and accessibility. We followed a mobile-first design process, creating 20+ key screens to cover all major app flows. The core design considerations included:

Minimalistic UI with large, high-contrast buttons for emergency scenarios.

Color-coded status indicators (Normal – Blue, Danger – Red).

Simple navigation with a maximum of 2 taps to reach any critical feature.

Accessibility-friendly design to cater to users of all ages and abilities.

The interface was kept distraction-free while still conveying urgency when needed.

  • Quick Sign-In & OTP Verification
    We implemented secure, OTP-based authentication to make sure users can access the app instantly in emergencies without compromising data protection.
  • Personalized Alert Contacts
    This feature was added so users can predefine trusted individuals or authorities, ensuring alerts are sent to the most relevant recipients when every second matters.
  • Danger Status Update
    We included a one-tap status switch to allow users to immediately indicate a shift from Normal to Danger, reducing alert-triggering time to a single action.
  • Real-Time Alert Sending & Receiving
    We built two-way communication into the app so users can both broadcast distress alerts and receive safety confirmations from their network in real time.
  • Alert Cancellation Option
    This functionality was added to let users stop an active alert once the situation is resolved, preventing false alarms and unnecessary panic.
  • Audio Recording
    We integrated audio capture so users can record voice notes or ambient sounds during emergencies, providing responders with crucial real-world context.
  • Donation Support
    We added a secure donation module to allow users to contribute toward the app’s ongoing development and operational sustainability.
  • Notification System
    This system was developed to keep users informed through instant push notifications whenever alerts are sent, received, or acknowledged.

The project resulted in a fully functional, real-time emergency communication platform that delivers peace of mind to its users.

Flap App’s intuitive interface, rapid alert system, and secure data handling make it a dependable tool in life-threatening situations.
