Windsor University School of Medicine provides broad medical education and academic support services designed to assist students in achieving their academic goals. As a leading medical school in the Caribbean, all students at WUSOM are offered an enhanced academic education along with extensive hands-on patient care training and leadership.
Windsor university school of medicine aimed to enhance its online presence to attract students, faculty, and research collaborators. They solicited our help to develop a user-friendly, visually appealing, and content-intensive website, with seamless navigation and accessibility. The content structure and design needed to showcase their academic excellence, provide the relevant information about admissions, fee structure, programs on offer and curriculum, and guide students towards application.

Development phase

We chose WordPress CMS for its flexibility, ease of use, and robust community support, and utilized custom themes and plugins to meet the specific needs of the university. We developed custom post types for courses, faculty profiles, news, and events and integrated a user-friendly backend interface for easy content updates by non-technical staff. The website was also fully responsive, providing a seamless experience across desktops, tablets, and smartphones. We also implemented best practices for on-page SEO, including meta tags, alt texts, and keyword optimization, and integrated Google Analytics for performance tracking. We adhered to WCAG guidelines to ensure the website was accessible to users with disabilities, and included features like text resizing, high-contrast modes, and screen reader compatibility.

Before launching the website, our quality assurance experts conducted rigorous testing for functionality, usability, and compatibility across different browsers and devices, and performed load testing to ensure the website could handle high traffic volumes, especially during peak periods like admissions.

Design Phase

WUSOM already had distinct branding. What we did was use the web design as an opportunity to help them create a much more engaging visual experience. This web design project was highly content-driven. We needed to create an architecture that would improve accessibility to content, allowing visitors to effortlessly view the programs on offer, learn about the university, see upcoming events and academic calendar, explore the fee structure, financial aid options, and student services, and to apply for upcoming semesters.

As always, we kicked off the project by conducting a thorough analysis of the university's existing website and competitor websites, identified key user personas: prospective students, current students, faculty, and researchers, and mapped out user journeys to ensure intuitive navigation.  Through diligent communication and collaboration, we gained a deep understanding of the client's vision, brand identity, key messaging, target audience, and desired user experience.


We created wireframes to outline the website structure and layout and developed high-fidelity prototypes to visualize the design elements, including color schemes, typography, and imagery.  A big part of engaging with potential students is facilitating an emotional connection, so we wanted to give much more room in the web design to authentic photographs of the campus and smiling, engaged students and faculty. We used their existing color palette of blue and yellow to make the call-outs, buttons and image overlays stand out, resulting in a clean, visually appealing design. We then presented the prototypes to the university's stakeholders and incorporated feedback to refine the design, ensuring it aligned with the university’s brand and goals.

Results to be proud of

Branex designed and implemented 24 social banners in the first month of the social strategy. Only the first moth obtained 7993 impressions and 80 engaged users on Twitter alone. On LinkedIn, we were able to score authentic 3784 impressions along with 91 engaged customers along with other social channels like Instagram and Google+ generating similar incremental numbers. With the successful implementation of the social campaign, the desired results were achieved that the client wanted. We successfully scored a prominent place for Windsor University in the online social arena along with genuine, interested lead generation for the university. We not only bolster their online presence but also strengthen their brand heritage through social media marketing that brought a new wave of enrollments to the educational institution. We also generated excitement within the university’s vast circle of alumni through our social postings and invited them to like the page and start sharing, thus spreading the reach of the university far and wide.



The newly designed website offers an accessible, straightforward browsing experience, with advanced search filters that make it easy for visitors to find critical information. The main menu features drop-downs to organize programs, student services, admission information, faculty information, and course directory by category. Intuitive navigation and user-friendly design led to a 30% increase in the average time spent on the site. Holding it all together is a flexible platform to help their team more easily handle constant content updates, keeping information current and relevant.

Branex received glowing commendations from both the university community and external visitors for the website’s modern look and functionality. Prospective students reported a smoother application process and better access to information. The project was a resounding success, meeting all the client's objectives and delivering measurable results. The new website not only enhanced the university’s digital footprint but also provided a robust platform for future growth and engagement.
